"I ‘paint’ with paper to tell a visual story, one layer at a time."
My parents had a love for all creative arts, and so my brother and I went to museums, musical performances and play readings and sculpture gardens whether we wanted to or not. Art was a thread throughout all of my schooling, and When I was in fifth grade, I declared that I wanted to be an "Artist" when I grew up.
Always fascinated with the creative process, I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Theatre Design. After working several years in the Theatre industry, I decided to pursue Art Education and earned my Texas teaching certificate in Art and Theatre. Teaching High School art was the perfect platform to rigorously perfect my technical skills and try out new art methods and materials.
In 2017 I left the classroom to finally pursue being an ‘Artist’ full-time. I was given a printed commission project, and I felt strongly drawn to cutting and tearing paper. With paper, I was suddenly able to create ART as I SEE it. Each color and quality of light was a separate shape, an individual piece.
Now in 2024 I have pushed paper to capture renaissance style floral still lifes, portraits, waterscapes and even miniature landscapes and large abstracts. I also teach my unique paper art method at the Contemporary Art School at Laguna Gloria and at a variety of other venues in the area.
I am currently working in my Austin studio on a Swimmer series exploring the healing qualities of water and based on photographs of people swimming in our beloved Barton Springs Pool.
